Cops on the West Coast arrested two Chinese men and confiscated nearly 2.2 tons of perly worth nearly R10 million yesterday.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says cops reacted to a tip-off about suspicious activities on a smallholding outside Langebaan.
“At 7am they entered a warehouse situated alongside Langebaan Road where they uncovered an illegal abalone processing facility.
A total of 37 936 units of dried abalone were seized.
During the raid, cops also discovered a hydroponics marijuana laboratory and a hothouse used to grow the dagga.
The suspects, aged 31 and 35, are expected to appear in Hopefield Magistrates’ Court today.
