Police say they do not suspect foul play after a car mysteriously exploded in a street in Strandfontein this week.
Cops and fire rescue teams were called to Rotterdam Road in Bayview on Tuesday just after 7pm where they found the vehicle burning in the street.
Police say the owner of the vehicle did not open a criminal case, and it is not clear what the make and model of the car is.
The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion is yet to be determined.
Shocked residents watched the car burning while neighbourhood watch teams were called to the scene to help monitor the situation.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso, Rwexana says no foul play is suspected at this stage: “This office is aware of burning of a vehicle in Strandfontein, however, no criminal case was opened by the owner of the vehicle, and no foul play is suspected.”
Sandy Schuter, the chairperson of the Strandfontein Community Policing Forum, says they are yet to be fully informed about the incident and are waiting for the owner of the car to come forward.
