The family of a 19-year-old father is appealing for witnesses to come forward after he was struck off his bicycle and killed, allegedly by a speeding motorist.
Ashley Wilson was riding his bike and was with two other friends when the incident occurred in Mitchells Plain on Sunday night.
Ashley leaves behind a one-year-old son, and his heartbroken family say they want to see justice done.
The friends had walked a girl home from Heinz Park to Lentegeur when tragedy struck.
Ashley, of Woodlands, was cycling down Eisleben Road towards Woodlands when he was hit by a driver, who fled the scene.
Ashley was rushed to Mitchells Plain District Hospital with severe injuries and was later transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital where he passed on.
Ashley’s parents visited the police station late on Monday afternoon to open a case.
They were too traumatised to speak to the Daily Voice.
Eva Theunissen, a family friend, made an appeal on Facebook, asking witnesses to come forward.
“The accident happened in Old Woodlands near Heinz Park. The parents were at the morgue. The parents will be visiting the police station to open a case and to give an incident report. They are too traumatised to speak,” Eva wrote.
Maxine Bezuidenhout, spokesperson for the City’s Traffic Services, says they have not received a report as yet about the incident.
Police could also not provide more information about the incident.
