A Mitchells Plain community fears that a gang war is brewing after a suspected gang kingpin was gunned down.
The 41-year-old man was shot and killed in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley, on Sunday evening around 5pm.
While it’s speculated on social media that the man belonged to the Mongrels gang, his family denied the claims but refused to speak to the media.
He was buried yesterday according to Islamic rites.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said the motive for the murder was gang-related.
“On Sunday at about 5pm police received a complaint of a murder in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley,” Van Wyk says.
“The deceased was found lying in front of the door step in the dining room. He had a gunshot wound to his chest. No persons have been arrested.
“The motive is gang-related,” Van Wyk adds.
