The three girls — baby Akhona, Aphelele and Aphiwe 3— were born to a Khayelitsha mother of two, Dorcas Voyi, 34, on Friday at Melomed Hospital in Mitchells Plain.

Baby Akhona was born at 12:05pm weighing 2.020kg, hot on her heels was Aphelele born just a minute after her weighing 2.005kg and the youngest one, Aphiwe, popped weighing 2.035kg at 12:07pm.

The little babies are still being cared for at the hospital, but their mother has since been discharged.

The three bundles of joy are the first set of triplets to be born at the hospital since its inception.
