A woman and her 17-year-old son were killed when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck on the Langeberg Road in Durbanville yesterday.
It’s believed they are the family of a recently retired fireman from Kraaifontein, who was not in the car at the time.
ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring says paramedics arrived on the scene at 1.09pm.
“On closer inspection, paramedics found the lifeless body of a woman lying in the passenger seat of the light motor vehicle.
“The 17-year-old boy was found lying on the pavement a few feet away from the vehicle. It is believed that he was pulled from the vehicle by members of the public.”
He says the boy showed no signs of life and paramedics battled for 40 minutes to revive him.
He was revived and rushed to hospital where his vital signs again deteriorated.
Medical staff battled for another 20 minutes before the boy was declared dead.
The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known.
