Two sisters and two women were injured after the speeding taxi hit a car, which then hit two pillars causing the balcony to collapse.
A section of the road was closed as traffic officers and emergency personnel attended the scene.
According to an eyewitness, the taxi was speeding and hit a VW Polo which ploughed into the pillars.
ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, says on arrival they found the taxi and the car parked on the side of the road.
“A balcony that had stood over the pavement now lay crumbled below, rubble lying in the street. Paramedics assessed one woman who had been standing on the balcony at the time and found that she had sustained moderate injuries,” he says.
“Three women from the taxi were assessed and found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

The woman and two schoolgirls were taken to a nearby provincial hospital for further care.
Both drivers were unharmed in the incident.
Taxi owner, Ludwe Mawusa, says the taxi was travelling from Fish Hoek to Wynberg and he was informed the driver has been arrested.
“I was at home and they called me to say the driver has been arrested because he was driving recklessly. He is fine and I don’t know if the taxi will drive but we have called a towing company. There was nobody in the taxi at the time,” he says.
However, the eyewitness says this is not true as he saw the schoolgirls get out of the taxi.

When Daily Voice contacted Wynberg Girls High School, where the sisters attend, the school secretary confirmed that two learners had been injured.
“The two sisters were injured and taken to hospital. The one attends the high school and the other attends the junior school but they are fine and were taken home,” said the secretary.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms the 25-year-old taxi driver was arrested for reckless and negligent driving and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once charged.
