Gunshots rang out in the quiet community on Monday as alleged robbers fired at Elize Childsmith, 45, and her neighbours.
According to a source, Childsmith’s home was used by druggies who would come there to smoke their drugs.
“It was a lekker place for the druggies to smoke their stuff comfortably. It was a suikerhuisie,” the source says.
Shortly after midnight on Monday, two armed men dressed in hoodies entered her home.
A witness heard Childsmith say: “Wat de f** soek julle hier?”
This was followed by a gunshot. One of the robbers shot her in the chest and she was declared dead on the scene.
The source says the two men then went inside the house and took her TV before fleeing the scene.
“The neighbours heard the commotion and came out. They saw the two outjies and ran after them. The suspects then opened fire on the neighbours.”
A stray bullet went straight through the window of a home and missed an 11-year-old boy who was asleep in his bed.
“The bullet landed up in the mattress, it was like two centimetres from his head,” says the source.
A man named Allan, who identified himself as the Childsmith family spokesperson, declined to comment.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms that police are now investigating murder, house robbery and attempted murder cases.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident is under investigation. The investigation continues. Suspects are yet to be arrested,” says Van Wyk.
