Zarah-Jane Hector, 33

Shortly after the testimony of State witness Quinton Pheira on Tuesday, the two accused claimed to be feeling ill and the matter was adjourned for the day.

It was not immediately clear what was wrong with Renaldo van Rooyen, 33, from Kuilsriver and Tawfeeq Ebrahim, 26, from Blue Downs.

Zarah, a 33-year-old mother of two from Kuilsriver, was last seen driving her now deceased boyfriend, Mark Kleinsmith’s car on 14 March 2016.

Her body was found 10 days later on the Bien Donne Farm in the Klein Drakenstein.

On Tuesday State prosecutor Maria Marshall called Pheira from Bishop Lavis to the stand.

OFFER: The accused's R400 price tag for BMW Z3

Pheira, who is currently in jail on another matter, said he met Van Rooyen and Ebrahim at his home on 15 March, the day Zarah was reported missing.

He knew him through a friend known as Reagan.

The three of them went to the car, which was parked near the Bishop Lavis train station, but when they got there, the battery had been stolen.

He gave them a battery and they took the car to Reagan’s house.

ACCUSED: Ebrahim

Back at Pheira’s house, he offered the accused drugs to make them stay longer and also to get another opportunity to drive the car.

He says he refused to buy the “hot” car, but bought the car’s sound system and shuttle for R70.

Van Rooyen said he would return in the afternoon with a Mercedes Benz SLK, but Pheira said the two never returned.
