Khoza described the ANC, under its current leadership, as a “new alien” and as “corrupt”.
She says the ANC was too broken to fix itself, and that it pained her when she is ridiculed for acting with her moral conscience.
“I’ve already sent the letter to the [ANC] secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, advising him of my decision,” she said.
Khoza’s resignation from the party means she will lose her seat as an ANC MP.
She made it clear she was not joining the DA, saying she will now focus on work in the civil society sector.
“I’m also going to be working very closely with civil society organisations such as Corruption Watch, South African Women’s Collective, Save South Africa and all those civil society organisations.”
