A shocked court heard how murdered teen Sinoxolo Mafevuka was strangled to death before her naked body was dumped head first into a communal toilet.
This was revealed at the bail application of two cousins accused of raping and killing the 19-year-old in March in SST section near Town Two in Khayelitsha.
The men, aged 21 and 28, cannot be identified after the state made an application with the court.
The accused, who are related to Sinoxolo’s boyfriend, were arrested weeks after the murder after a jersey belonging to them both was found at the scene.
Yesterday the case’s investigating officer, Constable Batiki Tshabalala, read into the record a post-mortem report which revealed Sinoxolo died due to strangulation.
The accused’s defence lawyer, Thabo Nogemane, cross-examined Tshabalala on a statement from a new witness who claimed to have seen the accused dragging the deceased’s body to the toilet on the night she was killed.
Constable Tshabalala responded by saying it was easy for someone to recognise a person they knew, even in the dark.
The bail hearing, which has been dragging on for a month, continues on June1.
Mafevuka’s case made headlines when comparisons were drawn with how little attention it received compared to that of Franziska Blöchliger’s murder in March.
