A group of men came up with the cool idea of transporting their illegal shipment of kreef in a fridge in an attempt to evade cops.
But wakker cops were on their heels and seized 57 legal size whole crayfish, 47 undersize krefies, 2013 crayfish tails and 10 shucked abalone found in bags inside the fridge on the back of a bakkie.
Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says officers reacted to a tip-off when they made the bust in Dennehof Street, Gordon’s Bay, on Monday night.
He says the stash has a total value of R61 500.
Cops confiscated the yellow Ford Cortina bakkie and arrested five men from Hawston.
Traut says at the same time, officers informed the Flying Squad of a suspicious silver Volvo sedan travelling on the N2 towards Cape Town.
The Flying Squad stopped the car near Macassar and seized the vehicle as well as 1 055 perly. Another Hawston man was arrested and all six are set to appear innie hof binnekort.
