A family feared the worst after a mother went to the shop on Saturday morning and never returned home.
The Kensington family were worried sick after receiving a chilling message on social media saying: “ Sy’s vrek”.
Yesterday evening, the family’s nightmare finally came to an end when Edwina Presence, 37, was found in Paarl Hospital.
Police managed to track down the mother of five and informed the family of her whereabouts.
By late last night, it was not clear what the condition of the woman was.
And her family is still baffled by the circumstances around disappearance.
Her 17-year-old daughter contacted the Daily Voice to say she was worried after a sickening WhatsApp message was sent to her dad from her mom’s number.
The message read: “J ou vrou het te veel gesmeek vi ha kids se sake... wou jou net se en moenie wee bel... sim gan uit nou. Jou vrou is in Worcester afgesmyt syt leke geproe. Jou vrou le erens in Worcester”.
The teen said the family was disturbed by the text.
“My father sent her messages, but the response we got was not right and made us all panic,” says the worried girl.
When the teen shared a post on Facebook saying she was looking for her mother, a response from the mother’s account left the family cold.
It simply read: “ Sy’s vrek”.
Edwina’s sister Rene November, 43, was with her sister on Saturday morning before she went to do shopping in Maitland.
“We had a cup of coffee and were talking and laughing. There was no indication that she was planning on leaving.
“She still told me ‘see you later’ when she left. This is not the type of thing she would ever do [going missing,” says Rene.
Last night, Rene revealed that police had found her
sister in a hospital in Paarl.
“I am just relieved she has been found safe,” she says.
Edwina’s daughter adds: “My dad Quinton went to the hospital to see her.
“We don’t know her injuries yet or what happened, but I am just happy she is alive.”
Police had been investigating a missing persons case, but were unable to comment on events that led to Edwina’s discovery last night.
