Three teenagers are behind bars for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at school.
The alleged sex attack took place on Friday, May 27, at a high school located in the Steenberg area.
The suspects, two aged 18 and one 17, made their first appearances at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court last week on charges of rape and sexual assault.
The suspects are believed to belong to a gang called Just do it or the JDI.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the incident and arrests.
“The case has since been postponed [to Friday] for bail application and all three suspects remain in custody.”
The alleged sex attack took place on a staircase.
It is not clear how the girl ended up with the suspects.
She was allegedly forced to perform oral sex on two of them, while they also allegedly indecently touched her breasts and vagina.
A police source says: “It happened during school hours on the school premises. The incident took place on the stairs and the boys all attend the school.”
The girl’s parents tell the Daily Voice the teenager was traumatised by the incident.
The parents confirmed the details but did not want to comment further on the matter.
Jessica Shelver, the spokesperson for Education MEC, Debbie Shafer, says the alleged incident was a cause of great concern.
“We view the reports in a very serious light,” she says.
“Our social worker for the school is advising the principal on how to deal with the alleged incident, in line with our Abuse No More protocols. The district will arrange counselling, as required.”
