Tafelsig Social Worriers, Kenfac Fitness Club and Kraaifontein Chronic Exercise Club were among the 180 senior clubs from all over the Cape that came to compete in the fourth annual Games for Older Persons, hosted by the City of Cape Town.
The ou mense had a fun-filled day as they took part in different track and field events like bowl-a-hole, multi-ring toss, brisk walking and the dress-up race, in which runners put on more clothing halfway through the race.
Working up a sweat, the oupas en oumas showed that they are oud but far from koud as they competed against one another.
The event was officially opened by Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille, who was also an enthusiastic participant.
De Lille urged the pensioners to look after their health by eating healthy and keeping fit.
The City also made free diabetes and blood pressure testing available at the event.
Everyone was looking forward to seeing the mayor wys her hakke in the 300m brisk walk.
Aunty Pat came second after she lined up with 20 other ladies.

Rosa Linda, 64, from Golden Footprints Seniors in Ravensmead dashed to the finish line to grab second place in the 100m dress-up race.
The vinnige aunty says she practised every day.
“I practised on the soccer field in my area with the other ladies in my community.”
The competition was tight as Francina Williams, 66, of Beacon Rock Seniors Fun Club in Rocklands, almost punched a fellow athlete after coming third in the same race.
Laughing, Francina said: “I told him, I’m going to pootjie him if he beats me.”
Dennis Malgas, 64, of the Proteaville Fitness Club in Bellville South says the day, all about keeping fit and meeting people from other clubs, was a “great success”.
