Former ANC treasurer- general Mathews Phosa has described the Nkandla debacle as “scandalous” and he believes President Jacob Zuma should be fired.
“From any angle you look at it‚ it’s scandalous‚” he said.
Phosa told Eyewitness News in a video interview that much had changed in the ruling party since 1994.
“There is a lot of corruption. It has become systemic in municipal government‚ provincial government and national government. Corruption is systemic.
“And what do we do? Instead of hitting corruption at the heart‚ we protect one another. We introduce a culture of immunity and impunity. And it’s wrong for the ANC to do that‚” he said.
Despite the courts coming out against Zuma’s failure to protect the Constitution‚ Parliament had failed to act.
“I believe strongly that the president must go… I feel very much in a big crowd saying he must go. I don’t feel lonely. You can repeat a hundred times that the branches say he is forgiven‚ I cannot accept that‚” said Phosa.
