These Cape Flats residents were given a fright when strangers ran into their home and started shooting.
On Monday evening, the residents in Sonata Street in Steenberg were left traumatised when three unknown men were shot by gunmen after running into a random house.
Witnesses say after the shooting, two cars arrived and drove the three injured and bleeding men to the Retreat Day Hospital, where one of them, a 29-year-old, died of his injuries.
The huismense say they were shocked when three men aged 44, 29 and 21 ran into their yard and then their house and shots were fired at them.
The residents say they called the police, but were too scared to leave the house as the shooters did not immediately leave, but continued to shoot in the road.
They say everyone ducked for cover, waiting for the shooting to be over.
A grandmother, who did not want to be named, said she was furious because any one of her children or grandchildren could have been hurt in the incident.
“We just have to keep our heads covered and can’t even walk in the street anymore. The shooting never ends and all I do is pray that my grandson will survive a walk to the mosque,” she says.
Captain FC van Wyk confirms the shooting and says no arrests were made.
The motive behind the attack is being investigated.
“On Monday evening, Steenberg SAPS members received a complaint of a shooting in progress at Sonata Street, Steenberg.
“Upon their arrival they noticed a gathering of community members busy loading three wounded victims aged 44, 29 and 21 into two vehicles, and being transported to a nearby hospital.
