A man who pretended to be a police officer has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and attempted murder following a shootout with cops.
The phony cop, who was dressed in police uniform and a bulletproof vest, was found in possession of a stolen car and other stolen items.
Police spokesperson Constable Johnatan Filander says the man and a second suspect were arrested in Browns Farm on Thursday night.
“Two males, aged 31 and 26 years old, were arrested at about 11.20pm in Browns Farm Nyanga,” he says.
“According to information, the police spotted a car that was reported hijacked earlier (Thursday) night.
“Shooting occurred between the suspects and the police and one suspect was wounded and taken to hospital.
“One suspect was dressed in police uniform. A firearm, a bulletproof vest and housebreaking implements were seized.
“A case of robbery and attempted murder is being investigated and the suspects will appear in court once charged.”
