A man who claimed he was on his way to buy drugs in Khayelitsha before cops arrested him led the officers to a house where they uncovered - among others - explosives.
This led to police nabbing five other male suspects.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said the arrests took place yesterday morning at about 1.45am.
“While tracing wanted suspects in Khayelitsha, [police] spotted three suspicious males at C-Section in Site C, Khayelitsha. As police approached, the suspects started to run in different directions,” said Rwexana.
Police caught one of the suspects who then led them to the “drug den”.
“Police searched the house and recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with 14 rounds,” said Rwexana.
Cops also found an empty AK47 rifle magazine and an empty pistol magazine.
Further investigation led cops to another house in the same section where they found four occupants.
Here, cops recovered an explosive device and 16 rounds.
The five male suspects arrested - between the ages of 23 and 34 years old - would all appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court facing charges related to the illegal possession of explosives, firearms and ammunition.
