A taxi driver has been shot and killed and a second one wounded in two separate shootings on the Cape Flats.
Police were called to Delft South Main Road on Thursday just after 7.15am where a 41-year-old taxi driver was shot and injured.
Reports that a second person was also wounded couldn’t be confirmed.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, explains: “This office can confirm that the circumstances surrounding an attempted murder are being investigated after a 41-year-old man was shot and wounded at around 7.15am at the Delft South taxi rank.
“Unconfirmed reports suggest that a second person was also injured during the incident, but left the scene. No one has been arrested as yet.”
Three hours later, police were called to a bloody scene where a Busy Corner taxi driver, only identified as Robyn, was shot and killed by a gunman pretending to be a passenger.
A voice message went viral on social media claiming the driver had been shot by a customer.
“They shot one of Busy Corner’s taxi drivers dead now, point blank. The customer was in the van. He got out by Concert Boulevard stop street out of Steenberg. He came by the passenger side and shot the driver dead.”
Police spokesperson, Sinati Joni, confirms the shooting: “A 31-year-old man got fatally wounded as a result of a shooting incident that took place in Steenberg today, November 16 at 10am.
“A murder case has been registered for investigation with no arrests made at this stage.”
