The start of Ramadaan was a time of heartache for the mother of murdered Saadiqa Lippert.
The six-year-old was shot outside her grandmother’s house over a month ago by suspected gangsters.
She died in hospital hours later after she was hit by a bullet in the stomach.
Yesterday her alleged killers Samier Slamang, 26, and Waylan Botha, 22, briefly appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court, where the matter was postponed.
Outside court Saadiqa’s mother Chimeiz Francis, 30, was visibly upset about the postponement.
“I am very disappointed,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“It’s been a month now (since Saadiqa’s death).”
Chimeiz, who previously joked sadly that her daughter loved to eat, says this Ramadaan has been difficult for her.
“When we sit down at the table as a family then she’s not there. At first she was not there at home and now she’s not at the table.
“It’s very hard on us,” she says.
The bail application was postponed as the magistrate and prosecutor were both sick.
The prosecutor told the court she was “not in the position” to go ahead with the bail application.
This did not go down well with the accused who voiced their disappointment with their attorney before court proceedings.
"’ n Mens moet nou weer lank wag vir die next datum,” an accused was heard saying.
The matter was postponed to June 28.
