Police were called to Leiden Avenue just before 1am yesterday where they found the body of the merchant who still had 50 pakkies tik on him.
He was shot once in the face and is yet to be identified.
Police sources say the man is a drug dealer who had the tik in his hands when cops searched his body.
A second person, who had been shot four times in the leg, chest and buttocks survived the incident and was transported to hospital.
The source says: “There were rumours this was a taxi driver but it wasn’t, this was a drug dealer. He is unknown at this stage and 50 packets of tik were still in his hands when police arrived at the scene.”
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated.
Meanwhile neighbourhood watch members say the gangetjie where the murder took place is a haven for crimes.
A neighbourhood watch member, who asked not to be identified, says: “We as the community have been trying for months to let the City close the lane [gangetjie] that is an exit point for criminals and they also rob people there.”
Later police were called to the R300 bridge in Delft where they found the body of a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says there have been no arrests.
“The circumstances are being investigated.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact Detective Warrant Officer Davids on 021 954 9000.
