Shagon O’Malley, 31, and Tony Hartzenberg, 34, were shot multiple times by unknown attackers close to a park in Comet Road.
The inseparable cousins had been out together and were returning home.
A neighbour told the Daily Voice she could not see Shagon’s body, but got the fright of her life when the blanket covering Tony moved.
“It was an horrific sight. Half his head and brain were shot away, one shot through the mouth and one through his cheek. Shagon was also shot a few times in his head,” said the woman, who did not want to be named.
“Tony was a great guy. Always friendly and such a ladies’ man. I don’t know why this happened and I don’t know what happened, but I know that they were targeted and killed for a reason.
“I hope the police find these killers and make an example of them.”
Condolences poured in for Tony’s mother Rifda Hartzenberg and Shagon’s mother on the Ocean View / Slangkop Facebook page as the news of the brutal execution spread in the community. The community of Ocean View has become a hotspot for violence in recent months.
One of the most high-profile incidents was the shooting of six-month-old Zahnia Woodward, her father Bradley Robyn, 24
and a friend.
Baby Zhania died in the ambulance in the arms of her mom Cindy Woodward, 20.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Thursday at about 4am in Ocean View where two males, aged 31 and 34, were fatally wounded are under investigation.”
