This Mitchells Plain mother is dik kwaad after police allegedly trashed her new home and ripped out the pipes of her geyser causing water to flood and damage her furniture.
Saeeda Joshua, 30, says the “illegal” search caused damages worth close to R200 000 to her Jungfrau Street home in Tafelsig.
The mom of four, who bought the house a few months ago, says she was out on Sunday afternoon when police entered her premises without her permission.
The angry woman says she bought her home for R250 000, and it’s now going to cost her nearly as much to repair the damage.
She says they were left “ankle deep” in water after the pipes of her geyser were ripped out of her ceiling, and the water damaged her walls, roof, furniture, tiles and cupboards, and also affected her electricity.
She has now opened a case with police.
“I was not at home, but my neighbours called me saying the police was there,” Saeeda explains.
“The whole house was flooded, the water was ankle deep. We had to sweep the water out.
“They entered the house at the entertainment side and broke down the wall. They got into the roof and pulled the pipes of the geyser and that caused the house to flood.
“I had to get a plumber in to stop the water from flowing and this is happening when we are having water restrictions.”
Pointing to her newly-painted walls, Saeeda says the paint peeled and bubbled due to the water damage.
“The ceiling is also damaged and sagging, and the tiles are lifting from my floor, while my kitchen cupboards which I was still going to install were also damaged.”
The mom says she is not a criminal and doesn’t know why police wrecked her home.
FLOODED: Furniture got soaked after water pipe pulled out
“I don’t even know why the police was here, we are not gangsters or drug dealers. Who must pay for this damage?”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms a case of malicious damage to property has been opened against police.
He could not confirm if a police raid had been planned at Saeeda’s home.
