SWIFT: Angus McKenzie outside Busy Bee Shop innie Bontas

The drama unfolded at Busy Bee Shop in Bonteheuwel Avenue, Bonteheuwel, on Tuesday. The shop owners have asked to remain anonymous.

Ward councillor Angus McKenzie says he visited the crime scene on Tuesday night and was relieved to hear that community members had jumped in to save the businesswoman.

It is believed two armed robbers entered the shop just after 3pm and asked if gatsbies were sold there.

When the female owner said they did not, one of the robbers pulled out a gun.

The shocked woman immediately started calling for help, alerting mense who came to her rescue.

The gun-wielding robbers fled the scene.

Mckenzie says he is relieved that no one was hurt.

“No shots were fired and nothing was stolen due to the quick reaction of the owner as well as the community,” he says.

“I would like to thank the residents for their swift response.

“This is once again a true reflection of the community we are trying to rebuild where individuals are on hand to assist and help those in need.

“Due to the cooperation of all, a bloody incident was avoided.”

He warned business owners to be on the lookout for the gatsby-loving robbers.
