On top of that, his truck was impounded after he was caught by Law Enforcement officers yesterday.
City of Cape Town Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says the incident occurred along Olieboom Road, a known hotspot for illegal dumping.
“Law Enforcement officers caught the driver of a huge truck dumping a full load of builders' rubble on public open space in Olieboom Road, Philippi.
“The area is a known hotspot for this type of offence and the officers were patrolling the area when they saw the incident occur.”
Dyason says officers issued the driver with a R5 000 fine and impounded the truck.
“If his employer wishes to recover the truck, they will have to pay a further R7 500.”
To date, Law Enforcement has impounded a total of 88 vehicles for illegal dumping.
“Currently there are four trucks, 17 bakkies and one trailer that are uncollected at the City’s pound. All were impounded for dumping.”
Dyason urges Capetonians to report illegal dumping by calling 107 from a landline and
021 480 7700 from a cellphone.
He also says residents who provide information which results in an impoundment, arrest or recovery of stolen or illegal goods or the handing in of stolen or illegal goods can receive a reward of up to R1 000 from the City.
However, he says, this is done with the understanding that a formal case docket will be opened with police.
