A Philippi man is due to appear in court today for allegedly raping his girlfriend’s six-year-old daughter.
The man was bust after community members alerted police to allegations that the 39-year-old repeatedly raped the Grade 1 learner at her mother’s house in Browns Farm.
The child’s aunt tells the Daily Voice she learnt about the attacks in February.
“I moved back home in February and this child told me what this man had been doing to her,” says the 43-year-old.
“I immediately sought help from the neighbours, social workers and even the child’s school but got nowhere because my sister wouldn’t take us seriously and tried to protect this man of hers.
“But over the weekend a community leader finally came to our rescue and they came here with the police and took this child away.”
A community leader who has taken in the girl says doctors confirmed the meisie had been raped vaginally and anally.
“I get sick whenever I think of what this child has been going through,” says the 50-year-old.
“This man violated her and threatened to slit her throat if she told anyone about it, her own mother didn’t even believe her when she reported it.”
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirms a rape case was registered for investigation.
“The suspect a 39-year-old man was arrested [on Tuesday] and he is due in Wynberg Court [today],” he says.
