Police have busted two suspects after finding poached perly worth half a million rand in their possession.
Captain Frederick van Wyk says the two were arrested in Paarl on Monday after a tip-off.
“On Monday at about 8am, two suspects from Hermanus were apprehended by the Paarl K9 Unit after entering Paarl via the Du Toitskloof Pass.
“Police received an anonymous tip-off that a vehicle carrying abalone was travelling towards Cape Town. The suspects were spotted and pulled over.
“The search of their vehicle led to the discovery of 2 560 shelled units of abalone with a street value of R500 000.”
Both men are to appear in court once charged.
