Family of five victims who all allegedly died at the hands of Cameron “Wong” Wilson will return to court today to hear his fate.
Judgement in the case of the multi-murder accused started yesterday in the Western Cape High Court, and Judge Chantal Fortuin indicated she will deliver her verdict today.
Relatives of Valhalla Park teen Lekita Moore, 18, and Heinz Park resident Toyher Stober left the court disappointed but said they would be returning today.
Wilson, 20, from Heinz Park faces 15 charges inclu-
ding five counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and rape, one count of the possession of an illegal firearm and one count of the possession of illegal ammunition.
Wilson is accused of murdering Lekita in September last year.
Lekita’s naked and mutilated body was found on a field in Tuna Road next to the 8ste Laan informal settlement.
She had been stabbed 98 times, and her face and private parts slashed.
Judge Fortuin explained to a full gallery that she would be recapping all the evidence and testimony presented in court before delivering her verdict today.
For the first time, Wilson’s family was also present in the gallery, while Lekita’s family and friends came out in their numbers.
Fortuin thanked both the State and Wilson’s lawyer Advocate Mohamed Sibda for the manner in which the trial was handled.
“The charges against the accused are gruesome, to say the least. This court will bear in mind the family of the victims in these cases when it comes to the details of injuries,” she said.
Wilson, who smiled at television cameras, looked angry and frowned as Fortuin started reading her judgement.
Outside court, Rukeya Stober, the wife of Toyher Stober, who Wilson allegedly shot dead in October 2014, was extremely emotional.
Rukeya says she had been forced to relive her husband’s death in court.
“I am glad this case is ending. Having to relive this is hard,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“I will leave him [Wilson] in God’s hands as the Almighty knows right and wrong.
“My children and grandchildren still cry. He stole Toyher away from us!
“He was my loving husband, our breadwinner, someone who did anything for his community when he was called upon.
“Now neighbours are looking at me as if I am guilty of my husband’s death.
“ Hy [Wilson] het die brood uit my mond gevat. Ons het baie verloor,” Rukeya says ,bursting into tears.
Meanwhile, Mercia Moore, 21, reveals it would have been her sister Lekita’s 19th birthday next week.
“I am still angry. Dis nog fresh en dit maak seer. Next week is Lekita’s birthday and she won’t be here to celebrate it. He needs to be locked away and the key must be thrown away,” says an emotional Mercia.
“Nothing can bring her back, so he must be thrown into a hole far away. I loved my sister a lot and still do.
“Lekita loved children so next week on her birthday we will be giving party packets and food to children in our area because it’s something she would have wanted.”
Judgement continues today.
