A newborn baby nearly lost his life after his mother allegedly slit his throat.
Police say the infant was only a few hours old when his 33-year-old mom tried to kill him on Sunday afternoon in Macassar.
Police were called to the the local day hospital in Macassar by a shocked nurse who saw the baby.
The nurse told police the mother gave birth at home, stabbed the baby in the neck, wrapped him up in a blanket and brought the child to the day hospital.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana has confirmed the incident.
“On Sunday police received a complaint of assault at the local day hospital in Macassar. Upon arrival at the hospital, police spoke to a sister who showed them the suspect who gave birth to a child at home.
“She allegedly stabbed the newborn baby in the neck with a knife and wrapped the baby into a blanket and took the baby to the day hospital,” Rwexana said.
A 33-year-old woman was arrested and a case of attempted murder is under investigation
The suspect is due to appear today in the Somerset West Magistrates’ court facing a charge of attempted murder.
