Kiyaam “Yam Yam” Esau was gunned down just before 8pm in Watsonia Road.
The 26-year-old sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.
Residents say Kiyaam was not affiliated to any gang.
Others were too afraid to speak out against the gang violence in the area as they feared for their lives.
Police spokesperson, Zak Marais, confirmed the shooting and says a murder docket has been opened for investigation.
“This office can confirm that on Monday evening at about 7.48pm a shooting took place in Watsonia Road, Ocean View. One male, aged 26 years old, sustained gunshot wounds through the chest and stomach. Police are investigating a case of murder. No arrests have been made yet,” Marais said.
Esau’s mother was too distraught to speak yesterday as she was battling to come to terms with the death of her son. He was buried yesterday according to Muslim rites.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, nine-year-old Aqeel Davids was shot in the head by a gang of men who was chasing a 19-year-old man.
The bullet went through the lounge window and hit the child.
The gunmen ran into the family’s yard behind the 19-year-old, who tried to get into their house.
Three other people, including Aqeel’s aunt, uncle and the unknown teenager who was being chased, were wounded during the shooting.
Instead of getting married on Saturday, Aqeel’s ouma Shanaaz Davids, 53, had to bury her grandson.
