NO VIP: Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, 68

Dlamini-Zuma is widely believed to be one of the contenders to take over from Zuma as ANC president at the ANC’s elective conference in December.

“She is, at present, just an ANC party official,” DA spokesman Zakhele Mbhele said.

The South African Police Service argued that Dlamini-Zuma had received “threats”.

At least four heavily armed criminals allegedly tried to enter a hotel in Houghton, Joburg, where Dlamini-Zuma stayed.

It is that incident 12 days ago that police believe was a threat on her life and has used to justify providing the former AU Commission chairperson with VIP protection from the presidential unit, a government official said on Saturday.

The DA would submit parliamentary questions to Mbalula to ask him to justify this costly VIP protection for a person who was plainly not a VIP and for him to explain these “threats”.
