Hanover Park cops cracked down on gang hot spots in the area and arrested nine wanted suspects.
More than 50 people were searched in the nearly 12-hour operation on Friday.
Led by Cluster Commander Major General Gregory Goss, members of Metro Police and Law Enforcement formed part of the regular “high-density patrols” with SAPS members.
Philippi SAPS spokesman Captain Lance Goliath says: “Since the beginning of this crime prevention operation no incidents of gang violence were reported throughout Hanover Park.”
“[On Friday] police detectives were focusing on the tracing of suspects which resulted in the arrest of nine suspects who were wanted for various crimes such as burglary, malicious damage of property and possession of drugs.”
The suspects will appear at Athlone Magistrates’ Court today.
Several courts were also searched.
Responding to a tip-off, cops nabbed a 24-year-old woman for possession of dagga and mandrax worth R1500 in Silica Walk.
Several courts were also searched after 2pm.
A 24-year-old male was arrested for murder and attempted murder.
“Several other suspects were also arrested for various crimes such as possession of drugs, child abuse and warrants of arrest.”
