When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they found the taxi in the left-hand lane of the road, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found one woman lying next to the taxi while three others were found seated inside. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that a man and woman had sustained critical injuries.
A third patient, a woman, had sustained serious injuries while the fourth, a man, had sustained only moderate injuries. Fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free one of the patients who had been trapped in the taxi.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support before transporting them to Groote Schuur Hospital and Life Vincent Palotti Hospital for urgent treatment. The cause of the crash was not yet know, Meiring said.
