Alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield is trying to make charges of assault and intimation against him disappear, but has failed.
Stanfield made a brief appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he faces charges of intimidation and assault.
He allegedly attacked a cop at his mother’s house in Beacon Valley on Good Friday.
On Friday, his legal team asked the State for mediation, but the proposal was shot down, according to top police sources.
The reasons for their mediation proposal was not revealed.
Stanfield is expected to be back in court on July 22.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said the state was weighing up its options.
“The senior state prosecutor is awaiting further documents which may or may not help them make a decision on the matter,” he says.
“I cannot divulge details of the offer that was put on the table until and if an agreement has been reached.”
Stanfield has denied the charges, claiming there's a police conspiracy against him.
In an affidavit, he claims he’s caught in the middle of a dispute between Major General Jeremy Vearey and Mitchells Plain Cluster Commander Major General Greg Goss.
Stanfield claims the gang unit arrived at his mother’s house on Good Friday where they intimidated and assaulted her in front of his special needs sister.
When he tried to enter his mother’s home, he was confronted by a detective who accused him of being protected by Vearey. He has denied having any relationship with Vearey.
Stanfield was released on R100 000 bail on this matter.
Stanfield, his wife, sister and three cops are currently also in the dock in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on charges of corruption, fraud, possession of unlicensed firearms, and contravention of the Firearms Act.
