Three Wendy houses were gutted in the blaze on Tuesday at about 11pm.
The fire which started in Kiewiet Street destroyed the Wendy houses in neighbouring Sunbird Court leaving two families destitute.
Richmond Arendse, 51, says he lived in his Wendy house for 19 years and now he’s left with nothing.
He says the fire started in their back neighbour’s yard and spread within seconds.
“The only thing I managed to save was my identity document. We lost everything. I am unemployed and just bought new household items like the freezer but everything is burnt,” says Richmond.
HEARTSORE: Richmond Arendse 'lost everything'
“We had to squat in the dining room of my wife’s in-laws last night [Tuesday] with wet blankets, as we had nothing. What are we going to do now?”
The Wendy house where the fire allegedly started was vacant yesterday.
Father of three, Richmond, says he is heartbroken as his daughter is starting her matric finals next week.
“My daughter is in matric at Bridgetown High. She starts her matric exams on Tuesday but we lost everything. We have nothing left. She lost all her books everything,” Richmond says.
Chief Fire Officer for the City’s Fire and Rescue Services, Ian Schnetler, says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage.
“No reports of injuries sustained. The fire left 13 people displaced,” Schnetler said.
