It is believed the dead man is one of a group who started shooting at men at a house in Keurberg Road.
It is alleged that the homeowner, who was not injured, is a member of the 28s gang in the area.
The incident occurred on Friday just after 5pm.
Residents in Keurberg Road say the shooting at No. 27 started when a Ford Figo and a blue bakkie pulled up at the house and men in the cars opened fire on four men on the premises.
The man killed in the shooting was apparently one of the shooters from the Ford Figo. Alfrenco de Jager, 39, from Valhalla Park, died after being shot in the head and upper body.

The homeowner’s white GTi Golf was shot-up. The rear windshield and the left rear window were shattered.
Mark Olver, 27, from Bishop Lavis was shot in the right leg, Auston Olver, 21, from Leiden was shot in the left leg and Jeffrey Schotz, 37, from Bishop Lavis was shot in his left shoulder.
Darion Louw, 19, from Bishop Lavis was shot on the left side of his upper body.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “A 39-year-old male from Valhalla Park was shot and fatally wounded inside a white Ford Figo car and three other males ages 21, 27 and 37 were injured on the premises.
“A murder and attempted murder case was opened for investigation.”
