She’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s got muscles all over the place, she’s Firdous Asmodien, South Africa’s new Women’s Bodybuilder Champ.
The 38-year-old from Sea Point competed at the annual International Federation of Bodybuilding South Africa’s (IFBBSA) Championship in Durban over the weekend.
Firdous, or Dousie, impressed judges with her perfectly toned physique, sculpted muscles and bright smile as she strutted her stuff in her stilettos and bikini.
And although her bodybuilding career only kicked off last year, she took gold in the Bikini Fitness over 35 Category, beating 20 other hopefuls from around SA.
Firdous says she’s still in seventh heaven after her win, and can’t wait to represent SA at the IFBB World Championships in Spain in November.
“Everything’s still so surreal. I’m still shocked, ecstatic, happy and everything is still sinking in,” she tells the Daily Voice.
“The support I’ve been getting from all over social media and everyone has been overwhelming. I haven’t even posted anything on social media but I will post an update as soon as I’ve settled in.”
And she’s ready to take on the world.
“I am still trying to absorb the fact that I am the South African champion in my category, but I cannot wait to represent South Africa nine weeks from now in Spain at the World Championships,” Firdous says.
Dousie won the IFBBSA Shaneen Classic competition in May this year, and last year August, in her first competition, she won the USN [supplement] body makeover challenge body fitness category.
She’s a yster meisie with many talents; she’s a physiotherapist and also a champion drifter, just like her husband Noer Asmodien, one of the founders of Cape Town’s Drift Squad.
But training and fitness remain Dousie’s first love.
“I love training and I keep going. I don’t think I’ll ever stop training because I’ve seen what it does not only to my body but my mind and everything else. I’m addicted to this lifestyle and I’m now known as the Gym Junkie, even my Instagram account is named Gym Junkie,” she laughs.
