A woman's drug addict son doused in paraffin before chasing her down and stabbing her.

This Gugulethu woman says she dreamt her tikkop son was setting her alight, only to wake up with him standing over her bed dousing her in paraffin.

Notiti Diniso, 43, says an hour after this, her 23-year-old son stabbed her in the back and burnt their New Crossroads home to the ground.

She says she was asleep with three children in the house when her son, who came out of jail last month, went on a rampage on Friday.

“I woke up dreaming like someone was burning me and when I opened my eyes, I saw Mthobeli standing over me,” she says.

“He looked at me and said ‘Notiti, I want my R15 billion’ and then he ran out.

“I felt the bed and the lower parts of my body were wet and that’s when I realised he had poured paraffin over me.”

She and the children ran to get help, but her son chased them down the street.

“He stabbed me in the back before the children managed to chase him away by throwing rocks at him.”

She later flagged down a passing police van.

“The first thing they asked was where is the address for the burning house and then I realised Mthobeli had set it alight,” she says.

“We called the fire brigade but by then it was already too late, everything had burnt down.”

She says her son handed himself over to cops and was arrested.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirms Mthobeli was charged with arson.
