A four-year-old meisie has been reunited with her family after being missing for nearly two nerve-wracking weeks.
The child was found with a stranger who told the family she took her from a drug addict who had been abusing the crying child in the street.
The little girl was reunited with her grandparents on Monday.
Her oupa, 43, says the child was taken without permission by her father when he was visiting her aunt in Blikkiesdorp, Delft, on Sunday, October 2.
“We only found out on Tuesday, October 4, that she was missing when a friend from Blikkiesdorp contacted us. Her mother was too afraid to let us know she was gone,” he says.
“I left my job [in Hermanus] because I could not see that she was still out there. I had to bring her back home and could not have done this without my cousin,” he adds.
The cousin, 40, says they learnt from police sources that the child’s dad had been arrested for possession of drugs, and that he had given the child to a heroin addict when cops took him away.
“We then got word that she was taken from the addict by a woman who saw how she was swearing and treating the child in the street. The angry woman told the druggie to contact the police if she wanted the child back,” he explains.
Polices spokesperson, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana, confirmed the girl had reunited with her family.
