The Proteas will not hold back if the Australians get “personal” during their Test series Down Under, which starts in Perth tonight (3am).
The Aussies are well-known for their vuilbek
tactics and Cape Flats allrounder Vernon Philander says he and his teammates will have to get “nasty” if they want to compete.
In the last Test contest between the sides, the
Proteas said the Aussies took the sledging too far.
And Vern says he and his manne will need to be taai.
The 31-year-old says: “There are going to be times when we have to step it up and get a bit nasty.
“It’s all part of the game. There’s going to be a time when a partnership will develop and it will require one or two
bowlers to put up their hands and get a bit ugly and make things uncomfortable.
“That tests your character, it’s a part of Test cricket – testing your skills and to get out there and win that moment for your team. It’s going to be fun.”
