Manhunt for teen leaves one dead

KILLED: Vuyani David Rafisa was shot in the head

Thugs looking for Grade 9 learner turn their weapons on his family.

Skollies looking for a 16-year-old rival allegedly murdered the teen’s stepfather and injured his mother when they stormed his home searching for him.

Vuyani Rafisa, 58, was killed and his wife Vuyiswa Rafisa, 38, wounded after a gang of 20 armed men came guns blazing searching for Vuyiswa’s son at their home in the Nkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha in the early hours of Monday morning.

Captain FC van Wyk says: “A group of about 20 unknown males arrived in the house looking for their son, but he was not present at the time.”

“They then shot the victims before they fled the scene on foot. A murder and attempted murder case was opened for further investigation.”

Now the teen’s relatives say they fear that the gang might return to finish what they started as the Grade 9 learner has yet to return home.

Vuyiswa’s sister Buyelwa Dola, 35, says they were woken up by the gang’s shouting.

“They then started breaking windows and firing shots in the air, shouting for this child to come out,” she explains.

“When they finally located his house, they fired shots at the windows to try and get in, my sister only survived after she managed to jump out and ran away.

“Her husband was shot in the head at the door as he tried to run away as well.”
