A man is in a critical condition after his car crashed into a tree and caught alight next to the N1 in Kraaifontein paramedics said on Sunday.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 2pm on Saturday and found the car smashed against a tree, and well alight, spokesman Russel Meiring said.
Paramedics found the man lying some distance away from his car. He was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.
Paramedics treated the man and provided him with advanced life interventions. Once treated, the man was transported to Groote Schuur Hospital for further urgent treatment.
It was believed that the man lost control of his car, causing it to crash into the tree. A passing motorist witnessed the car bursting into flames and rushed to the man’s aid, pulling him from the car, Meiring said.
