Cops are investigating a murder case after a man was shot dead at a filling station on Tuesday morning.
The man believed to be in his 30s was gunned down at the Caltex garage in Lingelethu-West, Khayelitsha.
The incident occurred shortly before 4am when a group of armed men allegedly chased another group in the direction of the garage.
Minutes later shots were fired and the victim was hit twice in the chest and died on the scene.
Yesterday cops were on the scene collecting evidence and bullet casings found on the ground.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting are being investigated.
“A murder case was opened for further investigation and no arrests have been made as yet,” he says.
Shocked residents in the area say they heard gunshots going off but were too afraid to go outside and investigate.
“This community has become so dangerous at night, one can’t even peek through the window to see what is happening,” says a community member.
“I live just around the corner and was woken by the shots and I just pulled the covers over my head and went back to sleep, it’s not safe for anyone to be out at that time.”
