CORNERED: Man in stolen vehicle

The 26-year-old suspect was also in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Mitchells Plain police have nabbed a man for being in possession of a hijacked car.

Cops recovered a green VW Golf that was stolen in Pelican Park on Tuesday morning.

The suspect was arrested in Lentegeur with an unlicensed firearm and the hijacked vehicle.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut says patrolling cops reacted after the driver of the Golf sped off when he was spotted by police.

“(Yesterday) morning the swift reaction to a suspicious vehicle by members attached to Lentegeur police led to the arrest of a suspect who was caught in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a hijacked vehicle,” he says.

“At around 11.30am a green VW Golf with four male occupants was spotted in Woodlands area and upon becoming aware of police presence, the driver sped off. Following a pursuit, the vehicle was stopped and three suspects managed to evade arrest.

“The driver was apprehended and a firearm which was thrown from the vehicle was recovered.

Traut says once charged, the 26-year-old suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court.

“His accomplices are being sought,” he added.
