A man was shot and killed outside a popular Mitchells Plain nightclub over the weekend.
The fatal shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on the corners of Park and Wespoort, outside the Las Vegas Lounge in Westridge.
Tasriq Davids, 20, was murdered at about 3.45am, police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed.
“According to information, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed while three others were shot and wounded,” she explains.
“Cases of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation and no one has been arrested as yet.”
Police are yet to reveal a motive behind the attack but speculation on social media is rife that it was gang-related.
It’s alleged that Davids was standing with friends in the parking lot of Las Vegas Lounge when unidentified men approached and fired shots at the group.
The chairperson of the Seaview Block Watch in Rocklands Gabriel John de Bruin wrote: “It is believed to be either an American or 28s gangster who is dead.”
The owner of Las Vegas Lounge, Celeste April, tells the Daily Voice she was shocked when she learnt of the incident on Saturday morning.
“What I know is that at the time of the incident, the club was closed, the bar closed at 3.15 and the music was cut by 3.30am, so after that people must leave,” she explains.
“When I heard about the incident the following day, I was just as surprised, I know nothing about it.”
In November last year, six people were also attacked outside the club.
The six were allegedly accosted by dronkies in the parking lot, who stabbed them before robbing them of jewellery, money and one woman’s false teeth.
