England have been given a major boost ahead of Saturday’s Test against South Africa with the news that lock Courtney Lawes will be fit to play in the match.
With fellow locks George Kruis and Mario Itoje already out with injury, Lawes battled a knee injury.
But England’s defence coach Paul Gustard says: “Courtney Lawes has taken part in training [on Monday] as has [prop] Mako [Vunipola], who has recovered from a knock to the hip].
“We are in a good state of health and ready to continue our preparations ahead of Saturday’s game.”
Meanwhile, scrumhalf Ben Youngs believes the Springboks will try to beat them up this weekend.
He says: “Everyone knows the biggest thing they bring is physicality.
“I think they’ll go back to tradition and try to beat us up to a degree.
“I’ve never come off the field feeling there has been a massive gap, just that we haven’t been able to match them physically.
“They have added to their game with four-man and three-man lineouts, they’ve mixed it up a bit, but I think they’ll go back to tradition and try to beat us up to a degree.”
