’Plain fliek’s home debut

Entry to see the film on Saturday is R30 per person.

'Mitchells Plain: The Movie' will be screened in Beacon Valley on Saturday.

Mitchells Plain: The Movie is finally ready to make its debut on home soil.

The film will be screened at the Shekeinah Full Gospel Church in Beacon Valley on Saturday at 6pm, and everyone is invited.

Robin van der Byl, 25, wrote and produced the movie, describes it as an action drama, with a bietjie comedy and a heartwarming message at the end.

“This is what people wanted and now they have the opportunity to see it on home ground,” says Robin.

The fliek had its first screening for the public in Belhar three months ago and since then Robin has been scouting for the right venue to show the movie in Mitchells Plain.

“The feedback has been really good and that’s why we’re now doing screenings, and even screening the movie for people who want to do fundraisers,” says Robin.

He adds that soon people will be able to buy their own copy of the movie.

Robin says: “We first wanted to do public screenings before we sell the DVD, the last screening is in November and after that we will be selling copies.”

There hasn’t been a big screen debut of the movie yet and Robin is hoping its popularity will keep growing to interest big players in the industry.

“This is special for us this weekend, because we first started filming the movie in Beacon Valley, and now we get to show it here,” says Robin.

Entry to see the film on Saturday is R30.
