It's down to the last two! And our Cape Flats songbird, Paxton Fielies, is still in the running to win the Idols title.
Sunday night saw the end of the road for Top 3 finalist, Botlhale, leaving Paxton and Mthokozisi in the Top 2 positions for Season 13.
The trio returned from a four-day trip to London last week and recorded their singles, which they debuted in Round One on Sunday.
Botlhale’s Afropop love song Good Enough, Mthokozisi’s own composition, Masithandane, and Paxton’s pop tune Demonstrate drew great reviews from the judges and enthusiastic an reception from the live audience.
Round Two saw Paxton and Mthokozisi recreating their Theatre Week performances. The 17-year-old performed Estelle’s American Boy while Durban’s Mthokozisi sang Musa’s Mthande.
They closed the show in the last round with songs they felt were their best acts on the show.
Mthokozisi sang Ringo’s Kum Nakum, with Randall saying he deserved to be in the Top Two, and Somizi declaring: “That’s how you close the show!”
Paxton slowed it down with Judy Garland’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Somizi gushed about her “incredible” voice control and Randall urged her to enjoy the days before the finale.
Unathi said: “I was in Cape Town last week and everywhere I went, people said ‘Do you know this is the home of Paxton?’. The people love you and you are simply amazing.”
The Bishop Lavis star tells Daily Voice: “Sunday was amazing, something I’ve always worked towards, not just competing to win, it was more an appreciation show to show everyone who has been with me throughout my journey that I perform for them.”
The voting period has been extended to 10pm on Thursday 23 November.
Next week’s finals will be aired live on Mzansi Magic, DStv Channel 161 at 5pm.
