During last week’s performances, when the Elsies River klong sang the Killers anthem, Human, his coach Kahn Morbee rose to his feet in applause during Craig’s performance, which he said was “Awesome!”
Fans on Sunday night voted to keep the Economics graduate-turned-singer, as well as PJ Pretorius in the competition, which saw Freddy Lalendle, Zee Gqamana, Lindo Sithole and Amanda Faku sent packing.
Craig’s excited mom, Jenny Lucas, yesterday told the Daily Voice: “No words can describe what I’m feeling. To everyone who supported and voted for Craig I want to say thank you. Without you there is no Craig.
“Craig, you are a winner no matter the outcome of this competition. We know you’re going to hit South Africa by storm.”
Coaches Bobby van Jaarsveld and Lira had to make the tough choice after eight kwaai performances in Sunday night’s second Live Round at the Mosaïek Teatro in Johannesburg.
Now it’s up to the fans to vote which final two singers will be sent to the next round.
Capetonian rocker Luke Lovemore, 23, sang Lady Gaga’s ballad Million Reasons, bringing Lira to tears.
“You don’t know the amount of work that goes into this moment,” she told the audience tearfully.
However, in the end, she decided to keep Tender Mavundla, 35, from Port Shepstone on her team, while #TeamBobby’s Josh Ansley, 31, from Johannesburg is also safe.
They join Craig, PJ, Fatman, 40, and Samantha Leonard, 24, in the safe group that are already through to the next round.
Only one member of each team can remain – so four singers must be sent home in next week’s Showstopper episode.
